A Brief History of Saz's
Steve Sazama, alias Saz opened Saz's State House in March 1976. Saz created a first rate restaurant and sports bar in the inviting, historic building on State Street featuring his award winning Barbecued Ribs. The signature BBQ Pork Sandwich, initially developed for Milwaukee's festivals, has also become a restaurant favorite.
Over the years Saz's State House has become the place to be before and after Brewer, Bucks, Marquette and Admirals games. With buses running to and from most of these teams' home games, Saz's a natural part of any sport night. And Saz's Brewers Opening Day tailgate parties are known as "The Finest"!
2002 Saz's expanded with a 900 square foot addition - The State Room. The new wing is designed to host private parties and business meetings. The feeling of the original building was carried into the design details of the new room, right down to the rich wood bar. The room has already become a popular destination.
As the demand for Saz's food at tailgate parties, company parties and weddings grew it became clear that an official catering division was needed. In 1990 Saz's Catering became its own entity.
Since then Saz's Catering has been featured as the sole Wisconsin restaurant represented at the 1993 Presidential Inauguration parties, the only public restaurant (Saz's Brown Deer Club) at the US Bank Championship and exclusive caterer for Western Lakes Golf Club, Lakeview Conference Center at the Portwashington Country Inn & Suites, Comedy Sportz Night Club, Airport Comfort Inn & Suites, Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Milwaukee Airport, Summerfest Corporate Areas and the Saz's Hospitality Village at the Wisconsin State Fair. Saz's also caters to the Milwaukee Bucks and their visiting teams, the Milwaukee Admirals, the Marquette Golden Eagles and the Milwaukee Brewers and their visiting teams.
In 1992 Saz took his restaurant famous Saz's Original Recipe Barbecue Sauce to the Grocer's shelves. Since then Saz's Barbecue Products introduced a wide range of products including the festival famous Mozzarella Sticks, Sour Cream and Chive Fries, Award Winning Barbecue Ribs and the always popular, Saz's Shredded Barbecued Pork and Shredded Barbecue Chicken Breast sandwich meat.
Another major part of Saz's business is Saz's Festivals division. Saz's is one of, if not the, largest food vendors at Summerfest and Wisconsin State Fair. Saz's Festival Famous selections include Mozzarella Marinara, the Barbecued Pork Sandwich, the Sassy Chicken Sandwich and those mouth watering Sour Cream and Chive Fries with Saz's Signature House Dressing.
